Result: November 2011 Monthly Medal

The Thanksgiving Holiday was not a reason for our golfers not to enjoy the beautiful weather ahead. In fact, it was one of the main reason why we were able to play during the busy November month.
The Little Bennett Golf Course in Maryland has been chosen to hold the monthly tournament this time.

Early in the morning, the temperature was still in the mid 40's and everyone was wearing thick layers.
However, after 4-5 holes, the layers came out, because the temperature has reached high 50's and it was one of the perfect weather to play golf. It's considered as a luxury since the month of December is just days away, where the cold weather is lurking.

As a result, a lot of players played their best games.
Mazlan, with the handicap of 10, still managed to win the tournament by a huge margin. He scored a 35 points, 3 ahead of the closest rival. On the back-9 is where he scored most of the points, with 21 points total.

Mr Shahril was the 1st runner-up, continuing his great improvement, by scoring 17 at the front and 15 at the back, bringing up the total to 32 points. Dato Othman came close behind, with only 1 point separating them on the first nine, scoring 16 and 15 for a total of 31 points.

The three of them were awarded with a single handicap stroke, making Mazlan a 9 handicapper, DCM 21 and Dato Othman 11.

The rest of the field were not disappointing as well, with Taufiq scoring 30 points, Faizal with 28, Col Hisham with 27 and Mr Nasa with 26 points. Tamizi and Salleh had a below par performance scoring 23 and 16 points between them. However, this is golf, and we know that it's just one of those days. Both players are a great contenders and will bounce back in the next tournament for sure.

Among the other players who were enjoying the great weather outside were Datin Aishah, Datin Ana, Adawi, Hj Suhaimi, Mr Isham and a newcomer, Mr Fadhli.

The Malaysian (and friends) Golfers in DC would also like to bid farewell to Mr Isham who are going back to Malaysia, and Mr Nasa who will be playing golf in Peru in the near future. They have both been a great members of the club, and Mr Nasa had been a strong contender for every Monthly Medal Tournament.

Merdeka Golf Result

It has been a while since we've updated any result from the monthly golf.
Busy and all.

Moekiya won the Merdeka Golf Tournament and he said that it was the first time he won the first place since playing together with the Malaysian friends for almost 8 years already.
Well Moekiya, you deserved it.
He scored 33 points, collecting 5 pars and 9 bogeys along the way.

Tied by point but lost on the count back was Mazlan.
He had 10 pars but only 3 bogeys, playing 10 handicap took a heavy toll on him.
BGen Othman won the 3rd place with 30 points by scoring 1 birdie, 4 pars and 7 bogeys.

Mr Salleh and Mr Faizal tied for the 4th and 5th place, but Salleh won it by OCB.
They both scored 28 points where Salleh shot 4 pars while Faizal 1 birdie and 3 pars.

Faizal did bring back a novelty prize of his own, winning the Nearest to The Pin on hole 13.
Mazlan won the other novelty prize, which is the longest drive on hole 10.

We also welcome a newcomer to the club, Mr Rahim and Mr Jusnaidi.
Hopefully you will be able to join us in the upcoming tournaments too.

Thanks to the other participants for the tournament this time:
Mazlan, BG Othman, Nasaruddin, Lt Col Hisham, Taufiq, Salleh, Moekiya, Michael, Hafiz, Jusnaidi, Hj Suhaimi, Faizal, DCM Shahril, Neeazm, Isham, Rahim, Shuhaily, Aemran, Engku Hamzah, Anna.

Monthly Medal: July 2011

Ambassador JJ brought home the medal for the 3rd time this year.
With that, he took home the cup sponsored by DCM, Mr Shahril, for good (he promised to sponsor a new cup though)
Playing with 10 handicap, DSJJ still managed to score 16 points on the front 9 and 19 points at the back for a total of 35 points.
The race for 2nd and 3rd was much closer with Mr Taufiq scoring 18 and 14 for a total of 32 points. Brid Gen Othman with 31 points and While Mr Hafiz and Mr Shahril, DCM, tied with 30 points for 4th and 5th.
It was a close-match indeed when we see Mr Tamizi, who's playing with handicap 15, came in the 6th with 29 points.
Up next was Lt Col Hisham with 27 points and 1 point behind him was Mr Suhardi with 26 points.

Other members were not doing bad either.
All-in-all, this was one of the toughest fight we have seen all season long.
Thanks to all players who made the tournament worthwhile:
Mr Michael, Mr Faizal, Mr Salleh, Mr Suhaily, Mr Isham, Pak Engku and the newcomer, Mr Astar.

With this tournament, the club would also like to take the opportunity to bid farewell to Mr Suhardi who's going back to Malaysia for good. We will see you in one of the courses in Malaysia for sure.

Report: May Monthly Medal - Virginia National

First of all, thank you for all participants in this month's tournament.
It was a very early tee-times for everyone and since the location was at least 1 hour away (almost 2 hours for some) everyone had to wake up at 5:00 am in order to reach the course in due time.
Enough to say, it's golf we are talking about, and of course everyone made it perfectly ;)

Ambassador JJ took the medal/cup for the 2nd time in a row after an astonishing performance, a gross of 85 strokes and 33 points in total. He's the only player who managed to score above 30 points today. 7 pars, 9 bogeys and 2 double bogeys recapped his excellent day.

Mr Nasa took 2nd with 29 points, 99 gross strokes with 1 birdie, 3 pars and 7 bogeys. The battle for 3rd place was fierce with Mr Faizal and Mr Ton Azmi sharing the same 27 points and the same points on the count back (OCB) for the last 6 holes. Mr Ton Azmi had a better score on holes 10-12 and thus take home 3rd. Mr Faizal, however, is the 3rd place winner in the official MGDC list since Mr Ton Azmi was a visiting member.

With 26 points, 3 pars and 8 bogeys, Mr Taufiq took home the 5th place with a gross score of 98 strokes. Ms Ana is next with 25 points, 2 pars, 2 bogeys and 5 double bogeys (30 h/c). Mr Suhardi had 2 pars, 3 bogeys and 8 double bogeys to score 24 points while Mr Tamizi had 1 birdie, 2 pars and 6 bogeys to score 23 points.

Mr Neezam also scored the same 23 points but lost to Mr Tamizi in OCB. Brid Gen Othman scored 22 points with 1 birdie and 2 pars while Mr Salleh 19 points with 2 pars.

A newcomer, Mr Rahim had a fun day, despite having a low score but managed to par 1 hole to make his day. Unfortunately for Mr Shahril, he had to head home after the front 9 to rush to the airport in the afternoon.

Next tournament will be in June, most probably on June 11th but the course and time has not been confirmed yet. Most probably somewhere nearer to everyone :)

February Monthly Medal Recap

It was a long overdue report of the monthly report.

Cross Creek Golf Club was the chosen club for the first outing in 2011.
We had a good tournament here last year so everyone was excited to play here again.

The champion was a newcomer, to the Malaysian (and friends) Golfers in DC, but not to the golf world: Mr Tamizi. With a handicap of 18, he strolled past everyone else with a stunning 40 points with 1 birdie, 8 pars, 4 bogeys and only 2 double bogeys. He was one of the fews who managed to score 40 point and above in the monthly tournament.

2nd up was Mr Faizal, whose gross was 98, breaking the 100 that he deserved after switching to the Titleist AP2 iron. His score of 33, tied Mr Nasa but he won on the count back with a better performance in the last 6 holes. Faizal managed to get 4 pars and 5 bogeys and was playing with 24 handicap. Mr Nasa with a handicap of 14 was doing great as well by scoring 9 pars altogether.

Mr Taufiq was 4th overall for the tournament by scoring 30 points, with 1 birdie and 3 pars, while Mr Mazlan, an 8 handicapper was a close 5th with 28 points even though scoring 1 birdie, 7 pars, 5 bogeys and 3 double bogeys. His handicap was later adjusted to 10 to release some of the weight that he has to carry.

At the 6th place overall, Mr Shahril who had been showing a lot of progress as of late, continued his excellent form by scoring 3 pars and 5 bogeys. Mr Hisham was not far behind, also with 3 pars and 6 bogeys but his lower handicap put him behind in total points.

Since this was the first tournament in 2011, a lot of people had not been playing for a while and it has affected their game a bit. We are sure that March and April tournaments will show a totally different result.

We'll see..

Pre DC-NY Games

Exactly one week before the annual tournament, Malaysian Golfers in DC had a warm up games at the Goose Creek Golf Course in Leesburg, VA. The weather was very nice and the course was in a very good condition - considering that it was raining 2 days before that.

8 people took part in the game and result as follows:

1. Mazlan - took the first place with 31 points.
He had 4 pars, 11 bogeys and 3 double bogeys.

2. Faizal did amazingly well and tied Mazlan with 31 points but lost on the countback.
Mazlan had 18 points on the back 9 while Faizal managed a 15 points.
He shot 1 par, 2 bogeys and 11 double bogeys.

Three people tied for 3-5 placing with just one point behind the 2 leaders.

3. Ram - took the 4th place because he had 19 points on the back 9.
He had 3 pars, 5 bogeys and birdie the last hole.

4. Taufiq - scored 17 points on the back nine with the same final score of 30.
He had 4 pars and 7 bogeys to put him 4th.

5. Salleh - was the other person with the tied score of 30 points.
He also shot an impressive 4 pars and 7 bogeys.

6. Shahril - the new club members who is also the new DCM of the Malaysian embassy scored 26 points. Considering that this is his first time playing at the course and the first time playing after so many months, he did very well indeed. Shahril had 8 bogeys and 2 double bogeys.

7. Suhaimi - who was a stagnant member for almost a year, due to the knee injury that he suffered during another MGDC golf event in 2009, scored 22 points and actually tied Lt Col Hisyam with a total of 22 points. He did better on the back 9 with 14 points shooting a consecutive bogeys on the 10th,11th,12th and 13th holes.

8. Lt Col Hisyam - was not lucky enough. There's no question about his ability though since he is currently the 3-times winner of the MGDC monthly tournament. He shot 6 bogeys and 5 double bogeys for a total of 22 points.

Result: Aidilfitri Golf

The tournament was successful even though the starter was late by a half an hour - which resulted in both groups (front and back) missing the chance to finish up all the courses. We played until dark, and until we need an infra-red glasses - or an illuminating ball - to play the last hole.

Lt Col Hisham took the monthly medal for the 3rd time.
