It was a long overdue report of the monthly report.
Cross Creek Golf Club was the chosen club for the first outing in 2011.
We had a good tournament here last year so everyone was excited to play here again.
The champion was a newcomer, to the Malaysian (and friends) Golfers in DC, but not to the golf world: Mr Tamizi. With a handicap of 18, he strolled past everyone else with a stunning 40 points with 1 birdie, 8 pars, 4 bogeys and only 2 double bogeys. He was one of the fews who managed to score 40 point and above in the monthly tournament.
2nd up was Mr Faizal, whose gross was 98, breaking the 100 that he deserved after switching to the Titleist AP2 iron. His score of 33, tied Mr Nasa but he won on the count back with a better performance in the last 6 holes. Faizal managed to get 4 pars and 5 bogeys and was playing with 24 handicap. Mr Nasa with a handicap of 14 was doing great as well by scoring 9 pars altogether.
Mr Taufiq was 4th overall for the tournament by scoring 30 points, with 1 birdie and 3 pars, while Mr Mazlan, an 8 handicapper was a close 5th with 28 points even though scoring 1 birdie, 7 pars, 5 bogeys and 3 double bogeys. His handicap was later adjusted to 10 to release some of the weight that he has to carry.
At the 6th place overall, Mr Shahril who had been showing a lot of progress as of late, continued his excellent form by scoring 3 pars and 5 bogeys. Mr Hisham was not far behind, also with 3 pars and 6 bogeys but his lower handicap put him behind in total points.
Since this was the first tournament in 2011, a lot of people had not been playing for a while and it has affected their game a bit. We are sure that March and April tournaments will show a totally different result.
We'll see..
